Early this year, Kutumba restarted the tailoring programme that was initiated in 2008, thereby helping women to develop their designing skills to earn an income.
Women from the Kothanur and Doddagubbi areas meet up at Kutumba thrice a week to learn both cutting and stitching.
A professional dress designer and tailor opens their minds to come up with their own designs and helps them learn to cut commonly worn outfits such as the saree blouse, the salwaar kameez, tops and a variety of clothes for children.
A nominal fee is collected from those women who can pay towards this training. This is a three-month course after which they will be given a certificate by Kutumba. They can either start their own business or work for a garment industry.
